For the stylish record, I choose to sparkle all year long so this month, I’m going to share some advice as to what is going to make us shine bright in the upcoming party season.
The countdown to Christmas and New Year’s is officially on.
With a variety of activities and events packed into such a short time period (and often back-to-back), picking out a daily outfit takes some extra thought. With all of this extra preparation, you may be feeling a little less than dazzling. But the holidays are a magical time of year, so don’t lose your lustre.
Add some sparkle with a shimmery top, skirt, or accessory. Have you noticed your co-workers upping the glam in their daily outfits? They, like you, need an outfit that can easily shift from day to evening.
The holidays call for big shine, so have fun with your wardrobe. However, keep in mind the level of appropriateness for your office.
It’s best to choose one sparkled piece, and neutralise the rest. This way your glitz becomes the focal piece.
You really can’t go wrong with the little black dress (LBD), but really where’s the fun in that? Black may be your go-to uniform throughout the year, but the holidays call for a bit of colour. You can’t ever go wrong with red, but bright punches of orange, fuchsia or royal blue really stand out too. So don’t be lost in the LBD.
The slip dress continues its reign into the holiday season. Go for a silhouette with a little flair in the form of a ruffled hemline or lace overlay.
Show off your personal style with pleats, ruffles and fringe, it’s all about the placement, anyways. Choose the right details.
Skip the office heel and go for adventurous shoes – details like spikes or cut-outs are always sexy and add a little edge. I love a strappy or pointy shoe and when in doubt, you can’t go wrong with metallic. They are flattering on the skin and go with almost everything.
Play with gold and silver eye shadow that is. Whether you glow in gold, or sparkle in silver, shimmery eye shadows are made for this time of year. Boost your make-up look with a swipe of shadow, a bit of bronzer, and a touch of gloss for a natural look. For a day-to-evening transformation, add a coloured lip, extra eye liner, or a smoky shadow. With make-up, less is always more, so choose one feature to highlight.
It’s really important to feel good and also comfortable in a party look. You are supposed to look great and, more important, have fun: it’s the holidays. Make sure your outfit isn’t too tight, so if necessary, buy a dress size up.
Do you have any tips on how to look and feel your best over the busy holiday season? I would love to hear from you!
