Six men held staff and customers at gunpoint at the Cake and Candy store, on the corner of Belgravia and Repulse roads, in Crawford, last Friday, at 10pm.
Lansdowne police spokesman Sergeant Nkululeko Mnyaka said the robbers grabbed cash from the till and cellphones from staff and customers.
A shot was fired during the robbery, but no one was injured.
“The suspects fled the scene in an unknown white vehicle, direction unknown. One suspect was left behind and the staff with the help of community members managed to catch him and handed him over to the police,” Sergeant Mnyaka said.
The 21-year-old Browns Farm man appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
“Police will also investigate whether the suspect is linked to several of the business robberies that occurred in this precinct and the surrounding areas. Five suspects are still at large,” Sergeant Mnyaka said.

The search is on for four men who robbed the Fruit and Veg shop, in Lansdowne Road, on Monday October 16, at about 7.30pm.
One of the men bought R5 airtime before pulling out a gun and ordering the 41-year-old shop assistant to lie on the ground.
Sergeant Mnyaka said the other men jumped over the counter and took cigarettes and cash, dragging the shop assistant to the back for more money.
The robbers took about R25 000 before fleeing.
“It is not clear if they were on foot or driving,” Sergeant Mnyaka said.
