The Cornerstone Institute will hold a discussion with Dr Mamphela Ramphele and Dr Rudi Buys on transformation in higher education, at the launch of a new book on race and reconciliation in South Africa, on Tuesday August 21.
Brugbouers (Bridgebuilders), by Dr Buys, the dean of Cornerstone, revisits the process of reconciliation following a horrific incident of racial discrimination at the University of the Free State in 2008.
Dr Buys will explore these issues in discussion with Dr Ramphela.
Stan Henkeman, executive director of the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR), will chair the discussion, which will be opened to the audience.
Lorenzo Davids, CEO of the Community Chest, will read selected passages from the book.
The discussion will explore what lessons the traumas of the Reitz-video incident offer in dealing with current challenges of race, prejudice and privilege, particularly as it relates to changes in higher education today.
The discussion is open to the public. The institute is at 127 Cecil Road, Salt River and the discussion is from 6pm to 8pm.
