Car owners are encouraged to renew their vehicle licence ahead of the holiday season which tends to be busy.
Residents can also apply for a renewal online.
In February this year, the City of Cape Town implemented the first queuing system in the motor vehicle renewal and licensing section in the Civic Centre. It is hoped that this will reduce customer discomfort especially over the busy period ahead.Â
The City is in the process of rolling this system out to other contact centres.
Mayoral committee member for finance, Johan van der Merwe, said; “As always, we will have measures in place to deal with the high volume that is traditionally experienced. However, residents should still expect longer waiting periods during this busy time. Residents are reminded that they can also renew their licence discs online.”
An online licence application takes approximately 14 days from the date of application to receiving it in the post.
Motorists must bring along their proof of address when renewing their vehicle licences.Â
