Ward 59 councillor Mikhail Manuel launched a newly dedicated ward cleansing team on Monday October 10.
He says the team will clean up in the Kenilworth Main Road area and in Rondebosch near the train station and subway.
“I am proud of our suburbs, and what detracts from it being beautiful is sometimes it gets messy,” he says.
The ward cleansing team consist of 20 members, which includes 16 grounds staff and four foreman.
Mr Manuel says the cleansing team is part of the R150 000 Ward Allocation Budget of this financial year and is a top-up service for four months.
The team’s senior foreman, Nozuko Ngqaka will work out a shift schedule from Mondays to Fridays.
“The solid waste cleansing department will transport the team to where they must work, they will be provided cleaning bags and they will have a safe place to keep their clothes and personal belongings when they work,” she says.
