Rondebosch resident Heather McEnhill has been appointed as the new Rondebosch Community Improvement District (RCID) manager.
Ms McEnhill started at the beginning of October when she took over from long-serving RCID manager, Shirley Aldum who retired at the end of last month (“Veteran CID manager bids farewell to community,” Southern Suburbs Tatler, September 22).
Ms McEnhill brings 20 years of experience as a project and site manager to her new position, having previously worked in the construction, building and renovation industry.
“I was inspired to join the RCID, to serve the community and to use my coordination skills to enhance communications and collaboration of information and general upliftment in the district.”
As RCID manager, she will be the main link in the chain between the community, the City, Law Enforcement and security service providers in the area.
Ms McEnhill says she would like to work towards making the area more desirable. “That it is crime free, safe and to increase the sense of a community which watches over one another.”
Ms McEnhill says the RCID will also work closely with Law Enforcement and the ward councillor’s office to address social issues like homelessness in the area.
“If there are homeless people moving into any of the parks we need to report it to Law Enforcement, receive a reference number and try to help the homeless with better solutions for their problems.”
She says they want to encourage and provide workshops to the community on how they can best support the homeless through organisations such as U-Turn that provides holistic support to the homeless.
Ms McEnhill says she looks forward to forming a close working relationship with the Rondebosch police and the Rondebosch Community Policing Forum (CPF) and to continue to assist with collections for charity organisations.
The RCID will be having its annual general meeting at Micklefield Primary School, 81 Sandown Road, Rondebosch, today, Thursday October 13, at 6.30pm.
Ms McEnhill would like to encourage the community to attend the meeting to meet in person and find out more about RCID, and would also like to encourage the community to consider becoming voluntary members of the RCID. Email rcidoffices@gmail.com for more information.
