Roeshdien Jaz, more popularly known as Mr Jaz, will be launching his new music single, The Calling, at a cancer awareness benefit concert on Friday May 5 at the Cornerstone Institute in Salt River, at 7.30pm.
He started writing the verse, chorus and melody of The Calling while still in music school 13 years ago.
However, in 2012, he was diagnosed with cancer and needed to undergo extensive treatment.
During his recovery, Roeshdien realised that life is so much more than he imagined.
“Life is not how much time we have on this planet, but ultimately how we choose to occupy our time, and with this, The Calling was born.”
Roeshdien is the first official brand ambassador at Cornerstone, an educational institute that offers undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
The institute was founded in 1970 on the Cape Flats at a time when prospective black theologians were excluded from attending universities due to apartheid’s oppressive laws. As a response, the Cape Evangelical Bible Institute, now the Cornerstone Institute, opened its doors and provided education to these unqualified pastors.
Guest artists who will be joining Roeshdien for the concert include Monique Hellenberg, Goldfish, James Bhemgee, former SA’s Got Talent winner, Makeeda Swan and Sipho “Kotobason” Ndebele.
Phil de Lange from Smile Radio will be the MC.
Tickets cost R120 through Computicket or R150 at the door. For more information, visit https://cornerstone.ac.za/the-calling/
