American musician Willy Mason, is looking forward to coming back to Cape Town for a third time and will be performing some new music.
The New Yorker is set to perform at Mercury Live on Sunday May 7 as part of his South African tour.
“It will be my third time performing in Cape Town. I’m looking forward to the view from South Africa, I think the world and its history seem a little fuller from that vantage,” said Mason.
Mason’s popularity rose after musician Conor Oberst discovered his music backstage at a Bright Eyes show.
Oberst later signed Mason to his record label, Team Love and release his debut LP.
His debut album Where The Humans Eat, and singles (Oxygen and So Long), charted in the UK Singles Chart and Albums Chart in 2005. Mason went on to release The Ocean Gets Rough in 2007.
Mr Mason, whose most recent album was released in 2012, said he has been working on new music.
Mason encouraged fans to catch the opening acts. “I put a lot of work into my lyrics, melody, and chords, but most of the work is toward simplifying as much as possible.
“I frequently invite guests to join if I know any musicians in town,” he said.
The opening acts include French guitarist Yoan Minkoff, Cape-Town song-writer Mark Fransman and Emily Capell from London.
The concert is set to start at 6pm. Space at the venue is limited so booking is essential.
