More than 160 children from child and youth care centres and schools attended the Rotary Club of Claremont’s annual Fun Frenzy event at Bishops Diocesan College on February 18.
The children came from St George’s Home for Girls in Wynberg, Ons Plek and Siviwe Child and Youth Care Centres in Woodstock, Leliebloem House in Crawford, Happy Feet Youth Project in Langa and Kewtown Primary School in Athlone. They were treated to a day of fun and games, food and musical entertainment.
The affiliated clubs involved included Claremont Rotaract (for 18- to 30-year-olds), the Claremont Inner Wheel Club (for women volunteers) and five school Interact clubs: Claremont High School, Herschel Girls’ School, Bishops Diocesan College, South African College School (SACS) and San Souci Girls’ High School.
Every Interact volunteer at the event was assigned a child, whom they accompanied throughout the day.
As the children arrived they were gi-
ven a snack, T-shirt and cap. Sun-screen was applied before meeting their specialfriend.The pairs took part in ac-
tivitiestogether, like face painting, tug of war, musical chairs, story-telling, chairball and eat-the-doughnut.
Beforegoing home, all the children were given ice-cream and stationery.
