A fire destroyed a storage shed at a District Six school on Saturday.
Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at Chapel Street Primary School, in Searle Street, at about 1.10pm, said City Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Jermaine Carelse.
The building and its contents – including printing machines, garden equipment and old shelving – were destroyed.
The fire was extinguished at around 3.20pm. “The cause of the fire is unknown and no injuries were reported,” said Mr Carelse.
Cape Town Central police spokesman Captain Ezra October said they were investigating but no foul play was suspected.
Western Cape Education Department spokeswoman Bronagh Hammond said they were grateful that the fire had not spread from the shed at the back of the school.
“We can confirm that teaching and learning was not affected at the school and it resumed as normal,” she said.
The school did not respond to requests for comment.
