A two-day online conference on inclusive education in the creative arts will take place on Friday and Saturday.
The Creative Arts Conference for teachers and arts professionals is organised by Rustenburg Girls Junior School and the Western Cape Education Department.
This year’s theme is “out of the box”, and the conference will include workshops, panel discussions and international and local speakers.
Professor Anne Bamford will speak about equality, equity, accessibility and inclusion in education and art as education.
Other speakers include Artscape Theatre CEO Dr Marlene Le Roux; Lucy Bellingham, director of We Teach Drama; Dr Carine Steyn, from Nelson Mandela University; Brendon Bussy, from the Dominican School for Deaf Children; and Hanneke Mackie, from Buzz Foundation.
Event director Hendrick Marais said the conference played a key role in shaping the future of creative arts education in South African schools.
“The creative arts are a powerful medium for expressing diverse perspectives and fostering inclusivity. This conference actively promotes and celebrates the richness of our cultural tapestry, providing a stage for voices that may not always have a mainstream platform.”
