Hairy Hamlet

■ Author and director Boris Nikitin has rewritten Hamlet into a contemporary performance for audiences who love the avant-garde. Featured as an opening attraction at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, the show will be staged at the UCT Little Theatre in Orange Street, Cape Town, today, Thursday July 5, at 7.30pm. In a mix of experimental documentary play and music-theatre, performer and electronic musician, Julian Meding, takes over the part of a modern Hamlet who revolts against reality. Supported by a baroque-quartet, Meding exposes identities of himself to the public. The play is German with English surtitles and no under-16s are allowed. Entry is free but booking is essential.
