Ethnomusicologist Dizu Plaatjies, drag artist Manila von Teez and blues guitarist Elton Goslett are among the line-up for the Cape Cultural Collective’s April programme, Shades of Freedom, tomorow Friday April 21 at the Slave Church Museum in Long Street, at 7pm.
The audience will also be entertained by Blackroots Marimba, a UCT trained group and vocalist Aziza Davids, from Manenberg. Aziza is a member of the Rosa choir who did a six-month singing stint in Spain in 2015.
The spoken word component of the evening will be represented by wordsmith Romeo Maasdorp, slam poet Siphosethu Phikelela and the youthful poet and rapper Vusumuzi Mpofu.
The Buya Afrika drummers from Langa will kick off the evening with their energetic rhythms.
There will be food on sale. Entry is free and donations are welcome. The event will be livestreamed so that people outside of Cape Town are able to watch the programme.
