The launch of the City of Cape Town’s future 2050 Energy Strategy was held on Monday at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
At the launch, which I attended as a member of the energy portfolio committee, mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis gave a comprehensive account of the City’s long term energy strategy towards 2050.
With the migration from other parts of South Africa, the population of the Western Cape is growing exponentially year on year.
It is imperative that Cape Town prepare for its electricity generation consumption in forthcoming years in order to cater for its rapidly growing economy and population.
The Energy Strategy launch concluded with a panel discussion of energy experts hosted by the City’s executive director of future planning and resilience, Gareth Morgan.
The atmosphere at the launch was extremely positive and we are thrilled by what the City is doing to mitigate and end the electricity crisis.
Well done, team Cape Town.
