A truck crashed into the boom at Kenilworth train station’s level crossing on Thursday April 6, at 9am.
No one was injured, but the incident caused traffic congestion and train delays for those on their way to work. Commuters commented about it on the Metrorail Commuters Cape Town Facebook group.
“If we don’t have enough problems already, just reshuffle the trains. It’s already in a junk status,” said Zunaid Abrahams.
Metrorail spokeswoman Riana Scott said 20 trains had been delayed while the boom was repaired. It was now working again and the incident was under investigation. “It seems the truck was too high for the angle of the boom. Some electrical components were damaged by the current and an accident report was filed at the police station.”
