Saxophonist Donveno Prins will host Cape Horns at the Baxter Theatre tomorrow, Friday May 6 and Saturday May 7, at 8pm.
From gospel to jazz, Big Band to pop, and celebrating the much-loved but often forgotten lang-arm, the show presents some of Cape Town’s most notable brass music stars, while providing a platform for the next generation of talent.
Trumpeter Ian Smith of Virtual Jazz Reality fame and director of the Delft Big Band joins the line-up with saxophonist Heinrich Isaacs, who is known for his gospel jazz expertise; and fellow saxophonist Didier Richards, a popular performer with the South African Navy Band, who has played with the likes of the legendary Pacific Express.
Among the rising young stars on the programme are the Elsies River High School Band who recently performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Alistair Izobell is the director of the show.
Tickets cost R130. Book at Computicket. For block bookings of 10 or more, tickets cost R100, and can be booked at the Baxter Box Office on 021 685 7880.
