Pinelands North pupils will grace the stage next month in Don’t Judge a Book.
The play is written and directed by Pinelands North school teacher Shanique Adamson who says it is about a group of school librarians who reflect on their own lives when they come across a specific book that has meant something to them.
“While doing their librarian duties, the pupils come across a book that has helped them or spoken to them in some way,” she said.
The play will involve all the school’s pupils. “Each grade participates in the play by doing a song item and will be dancing and singing,” said Ms Adamson.
Main characters are played by pupils Emma Thomas (Mikayla), Simon Goldstein (Jack) and Luphawo Mfeketo (Thando/Thandi).
“We had workshops where we did various activities that helped the pupils get a deeper understanding of the characters as well as memory techniques,” said Ms Adamson.
The play will be staged at the school in Richmond Avenue, Pinelands. There will be shows at 10am and 6pm on Tuesday August 1 and Wednesday August 2, 6pm on Thursday August 3, and 3pm and 6pm on Friday August 4. Tickets are R100 for matinees and R120 for evening shows and are available on Quicket.
