A non-profit organisation is providing a social space for moms of newborns to interact with one another and learn from guest speakers who attend their meetings.

Circle of Moms holds its weekly social meeting at Kingsbury Medical Centre in Claremont.

At last week’s meeting on Thursday June 6, Nathalie van der Vijver came with her six-month old baby, Alexa and her mother, Diane van der Vijver to learn more about nanny services that are available.

Ms Van der Vijver has been attending since the beginning of the year.

“I love coming, I look forward to it every week, just to connect with other moms and learning from insightful speakers,”she said.

On average around one to 12 mothers attend the weekly meetings with their children.

Apart from moms attending, founder, Linda Waner says their weekly meetings are open for grandparents, dads and nannies.

“It is social as moms can interact with other moms and it’s informative as there is always a guest speaker who focuses on parent wellness topics,” she said.

Occupational therapist, Lara Schoenfeld, who works for a company that trains nannies to interact with babies, said they teach nannies different skills to use these skills when they’re taking care of children.

The group meets every Tuesday at Mediclinic Cape Town and Thursdays at Kingsbury Medical Centre in Claremont, but not on public holidays or during school holidays.
