A 53-year-old man arrested inWoodstockfor mandrax-possession last Wednesday, got bail on Friday and was arrested again on Sunday after he was allegedly caught with more mandrax.
According to Woodstock police spokesman Warrant Officer Hilton Malila, the police searched the man’s house – a known drug hot spot in Wright Street known as “Plasie” – last Wednesday at 4pm.
Warrant Officer Malila said officers found 10 mandrax tablets in the electricity box in the kitchen.
“During a search at the known drug hot spot, officers noticed that the electricity box in the kitchen has been tampered with and when they opened the cover, they confiscated the tablets and arrested the owner.”
But the police hadn’t seen the last of the man.
According to Warrant Officer Malila, officers patrolling Wright Street, on Sunday, at 8pm, spotted him throw something under a parked car when he saw them.
“When officers checked under the car they found the mandrax tablets,” he said.
This time there were 100 tablets.
The man was one of several people nabbed on drug-dealing and possession charges in the past week.
On Thursday August 15, at 2pm, police arrested a 47-year-old man in Upper Duke Street for possession of 30 bankies of dagga and one packet of tik. Police say the man also had a lot of cash on him.
On Friday August 16, at 8pm, police arrested a 37-year-old man on the corner of Herschel Road and Station Street, in Observatory, for dealing in dagga.
Officers, assisted by neighbourhood watch patrollers, found three bags of dagga in the man’s backpack, according to Warrant Officer Malila.
The man also had “a black plastic bag filled with dagga in his underwear” and a lot of cash on him.
On Sunday August 18, at 1am, police arrested two men aged 42 and two women aged 28 and 29, in Salt River for dealing and possession.
Officers pulled a car over in Rochester Road after noticing its headlights weren’t working.
They searched the car and found a plastic bag with 75 mandax tablets.
Also on Sunday a 43-year-old woman was arrested near the stables of Bromwell Street, for possession of tik .
Police arrested a 20-year-old man after he allegedly robbed a man at knife point of his laptop and documents in Rochester Road, Salt River, last Friday at 6pm.
Warrant Officer Malila said the victim alerted the police and told them the mugger had climbed into a taxi on Main Road.
“Quick reaction by the officers stopped a taxi and recovered the laptop bag, containing a laptop and personal sensitive information in the possession of a young man,” he said.
Police arrested a 32-year-old man on the corner of Argyle and Woodstock roads on Monday August 19, at 9pm, after they searched a car in front of a known drug den and found a stolen .39 Special revolver under the driver’s seat. The pistol was loaded.
Warrant Officer Malila said the gun appeared to have been stolen in the Newlands area in July 1998.
