I fail to see how the organisers of the Comrades Marathon are discriminating against Muslim runners simply because it’s the month of Ramadaan, (“Muslim runners may have to miss Comrades,” Tatler, May 4).
Using the same reasoning, that the date is during a religious time, Christians could also argue that they are being discriminated against as the race will happen on a Sunday.
With Ramadaan not on a fixed date, what is being requested is that every time it’s Ramadaan we should worry that we are going to discriminate against the Muslim community.
If organisers are going to make that judgement call all the time, no one will be satisfied.
