Woodstock police arrested five men on Sunday for being in possession of stolen property linked to a burglary in Willow Street, Observatory, earlier in the day.
Woodstock police spokesman Sergeant Hilton Malila said officers patrolling Observatory at 4pm had spotted a white Avanza with five occupants.
When the officers tried to stop the vehicle, it sped off and police pursed it to Klipfontein Road in Athlone, where they arrested the five men as they climbed out of the vehicle and tried to flee on foot.
The police recovered a flat-screen TV, a laptop, computer accessories, electric guitars, school uniforms, backpacks, heater and drums as well as large knives.
The five suspects appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday where they are facing charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, reckless and negligent driving and possession of dangerous weapons.
