A team of volunteers from Mowbray Maternity Hospital, including four sonographers and a doctor, dedicated their time last month to perform and oversee obstetric ultrasound scans for 40 pregnant women who had never had their scans. Patients were invited from two health facilities which currently had no scanning facilities available. Sonographer Cherylene Hendricks said the initiative started last year because of the great need for it. “We are extremely passionate about what we do, and we feel every patient is entitled to a scan during their pregnancy. This initiative is an important one because it provides key knowledge as to how to manage the pregnancy further,” she said.
