A ward councillor is appealing to the public to help the victims of a fire that destroyed a Lansdowne home.
The fire, on Sunday March 19, destroyed the house in Queen Bess Road and damaged a nearby caravan, displacing 13 people, according to City Fire and Rescue spokesman Jermaine Carelse.
The fire was reported at about 2.30pm and firefighters from Wynberg, Ottery and Epping contained it at about 5pm.
“The cause of the fire is unknown, and no injuries were reported,” said Mr Carelse.
Ward councillor Mark Kleinschmidt said the fire victims had been left destitute.
“We are appealing for suitable accommodation; clothing for all ages, male and women, all sizes as well as children’s clothing.”
The fire victims declined to comment.
Donations can be dropped at Mr Kleinschmidt’s ward office at the Lansdowne civic centre, 93 Church Street, Lansdowne. Call 021 444 0420, WhatsApp 084 605 6182 or email VeritaClaudine.Lesar@capetown.gov.za or Markrh77@gmail.com before dropping any items.
