Rondebosch police have lauded the hard work of one of its detectives, Sergeant John Thomas, whose thorough investigation led to the arrest and sentencing
of three suspected house robbers.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam said the three suspects aged 18, 20 and 41, assaulted the 50-year-old victim inside his home on May 28 last year and took
his wallet, cellphone and vehicles.
“They tied him up and locked him in his own car boot and drove around with him for more than 24 hours. They dumped him on a farm in Rawsonville, where he was later found by Rawsonville police and taken to hospital to treat his injuries.”
The docket was assigned to Sergeant Thomas, who followed up on all information given by eye witnesses which led to the successful arrest of the three suspects on May 30 last year.
“Two were arrested on a farm in Rawsonville and the third suspect was arrested in Beaufort West with the complainant’s vehicle,” said Warrant Officer Sisam.
The 20-year-old was sentenced to 15 years, while his two accomplices each received a 13-year sentence on charges of robbery with aggravated circumstances; kidnapping and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday May 21.
“The detective meticulously prepared the chain of evidence in the docket which led to the court finding them all guilty. We thank Sergeant Thomas for his great work in securing a good conviction,” said Warrant Officer Sisam.
