Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) will perform four concerts in Autumn Symphonies at the City Hall, on Thursdays April 13 and 20, and May 4 and 11.
François du Toit will perform the Brahms Piano Concerto no 2 in the first concert, followed the next week by violinist Christina Brabetz who will perform the Violin Concerto by Tchaikovsky.
On May 4, Veriko Tchumburidze performs the Dvorak Violin Concerto, followed by Vitaly Pisarenko who will bring the season to a close with his interpretation of the 2nd Piano Concerto by Liszt, all under the baton of principal guest conductor, Bernhard Gueller.
Works on the programmes include the 10th Symphony by Shostakovich as well as the Czech Suite by Dvorak, the 3rd Symphony by Brahms and Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
“The Shostakovich Symphony no 10 is something I have been wanting to conduct with the CPO for years and I know the musicians look forward to this too,” says Gueller.
“We are so fortunate that a subscriber has made the funds available to hire extra musicians to perform this giant work. We thank her for making this donation in the memory of her late husband.”
The symphony concerts start at 7.30pm with pre-concert talks at 6.45pm. The dress rehearsals are at 11am.
