International volunteer group ASEZ WAO, of the World Mission Society Church of God, visited Groote Schuur Hospital on July 29 to deliver handwritten letters of encouragement and 130 parcels containing energy bars, juice and coffee to the medical staff.

The donation was a part of the organisation’s Heart to Heart campaign.

Asez WAO volunteer Precious Malete said: “We are carrying out the Heart to Heart Campaign to extend our heartfelt thanks to the health-care workers on the front line, saving our lives and sacrificing their time. We could not just sit at home, and felt we truly had to get out and give them our thanks and appreciation.”

Groote Schuur Hospital spokesman Alaric Jacobs welcomed the volunteers.

“We are very thankful for the donation that was given to our hospital. It will go a long way to help our staff who are struggling at the moment, especially due to the amount of patients that we have,” he said.
