Municipal police officers who pulled over a vehicle in Rondebosch for multiple traffic violations ended up freeing a kidnapping victim, says the City.
City Law Enforcement auxiliary officers were on patrol in Rondebosch on Friday March 10, at 10.30pm, when they stopped a vehicle with no number plates that had run several red lights, said mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith.
“The officers picked up on tension between the occupants, and when they interviewed the female occupant, she told them she had been kidnapped earlier in Muizenberg and had been forced to accompany them as they attempted to withdraw funds from her bank account.”
The four people in the vehicle with the woman were arrested on kidnapping and theft charges, said Mr Smith.
Muizenberg police spokesman Captain Stephen Knapp said the four suspects, three men aged 26, 30 and 35 and a 28-year-old woman, had appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday March 13.
