Guns and drugs were seized and a man arrested in a joint police operation in Woodstock last Friday.
A stolen .38 Special revolver was found in a drawer during a search of the old Woodstock hospital, police say.
“A total of 672 mandrax tablets, 26 half mandrax tablets, and 114 grams of cocaine were found inside the building,” said Woodstock police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Alroy van der Berg.
According to him, the drugs have an estimated street value of R67 000.
Later in the day, in Dundonald Street, near the old hospital, police arrested a 35-year-old Kalksteenfontein man who they say was carrying an illegal gun and ammunition.
The suspect appeared in Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday October 18.
In the early hours of Sunday, police and neighbourhood watch members carried out Covid-19 compliance patrols.
“Fines to the value of R20 000 were issued to around 12 establishments for not complying with Covid-19 and liquor license rules,” said Colonel Van der Berg.
Criminal activity can be reported to Colonel Van der Berg at 082 469 3096 or to Woodstock police at 021 442 3117.
