Muggers are targeting women for their cellphones in the Pinelands area, warn police.
On Thursday August 31, a woman walking alone in Hawthorne Way, at 1.45pm, was mugged by a man with a knife who took her cellphone and jacket, said Pinelands police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Anton van der Berg.
The day before, two men took a woman’s cellphone as she was walking in Poplar Avenue, Thornton, at about 5pm. They fled in a blue VW Polo.
The perpetrators are still at large.
“We urge the community not to expose cellphones and accessories such as headphones when they are walking alone in public as it is an easy target,” said Lieutenant Colonel Van der Berg.
Anyone with information about the crimes can call Pinelands police at 021 506 2116.
