Livingstone and Westerford high schools are among the top 10 schools in the province that donated the most units of blood for 2018.
According to the Western Province Blood Transfusion Service (WPBTS), Livingstone High finished in seventh place donating 313 units of blood, while Westerford High finished in eighth place donating 310 units of blood.
The top blood donating schools in the province are HTS Drostdy in Worcester that finished third, with Fish Hoek High finishing in second place and the big winner is Spine Road High from Mitchells Plain that finished in second place for the second year in a row where they donated 537 units of blood.
Spokesperson for WPBTS, Michelle Vermeulen said the youth plays a vital role in the sustainability of the organisation, and that’s why they forge good ties with educational institutions and set up blood donation clinics at them.
“Currently, WPBTS have 117 blood donation clinics at educational institutions around the Western Cape, of which 94 is at high schools and 23 at tertiary institutions,” said Ms Vermeulen.
