The final score was 50-6 to the visiting students. Maties are favourites for the top spot on the log and were again in an unforgiving mood against the Brookside outfit.
The loss left Villager on 17 points and in 11th place on the log with only three matches remaining. Those fixtures will be tricky for Villager as they go up against NTK and False Bay RFC, both away.
Maties have again proved their dominance in the league and are the unsurprising top try scorers with 113 to their name from only 12 matches. Their try tally is 48 more than the second leading try scorers, Durbell.
In other Super league A action played at the weekend, Hamilton RFC thumped Brackenfell RFC 41-15 at Stephen Oval.
The weekend weather saw most of the supporters under umbrellas, enjoying a solid game of rugby.
Despite inclement weather conditions, the referee had a rather relaxed time in a game that saw Hammies walk away victorious.
Brackenfell eighthman, Njabulo Ndlovu tried to assist his team with a couple of points under the poles, but it was never enough to level matters.
Hammies recorded their eighth win from 11 league games in the season to place them in fourth spot on the log, ahead of their fixture against Victorians, at Stephen Oval, on Saturday.
Vics are in seventh spot, one point above Brackenfell who are on 29 points.
Brackenfell had a couple of difficult results over the past few weeks. They had to stitch together back-to-back losses against teams such as UCT and Vics, who had moved above them on the log.
However, it does not get any better for Brackenfell.
Their next fixture is against fifth placed Union-Milnerton (Uni-Mil), in Milnerton, on Saturday. Uni-Mil are also on a rollercoaster following their recent 68-21 thumping by Stellenbosch, at home.
Brackenfell will need a win in that game to earn maximum points if they want to move above the Victorians, and possibly above UCT, who have a game in hand.
Meanwhile, in the mid-week fixtures, Victorians will play host to a struggling Villager at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch, and UCT will travel away to St George’s at the Gustrouw Field A.
Stellenbosch will look to stretch their 56-point lead on top when they face ninth-placed Tygerberg at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday.
They are eight points ahead of second-placed False Bay RFC.
Tygerberg have a tough task ahead of them in a game against Maties if they want to avoid Brackenfell and UCT surpassing their 27 points. Tygerberg are two points behind Brackenfell.
Hammies will look for their ninth win of the season when they host Vics on Saturday.
Also last week, SK Walmer played to a 10-all draw against Tygerberg at Florida Park.
The draw keeps the Bo-kaap side in the bottom half of the log as the league approaches the business end. Their chances of a top six finish were reduced as they failed to collect maximum points.
Meanwhile, False Bay RFC look set to finish their season in second place after another convincing win against Victorians last week.
Only a point separates them from Durbel in third place.
