UCT and Villager were among the sides in action at the weekend’s Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) Top 6 semi-finals, at City Park. The Students faced Helderberg while the Brooksiders were up against Stellenbosch in their respective Super League A matches.
With 30 of their regular players currently in France, defending their title at the Universities World Cup, which runs alongside World Rugby’s main event, UCT side had a difficult day at the office, going down 29-17.
Although the 13-10 result in their match against Maties did not go their way, Villager manager Tom Hendry says they’re happy with their overall performance this season. “We managed to finish on top of the log, which was one of our goals, but the main goal was to lift the trophy. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be,” he said.
