The CSA Primrose Hub boys have won both the under-11 and the under-13 age group trophies in the JP21 Foundation T10 Friendship Series.
The under-11 hub boys beat Blue Bells, and the under-13 boys beat JP21 in the finals played at Bishops on the Frank Reid Oval last week, to be crowned champions in both age groups.
“This brings the Primrose hub championship title haul to six trophies this season for the hub boys across age groups under-11 to under-17,” said Hub head coach Shahied Adonis.
Blue Bells were all out for 39 runs with the under-11 hub boys winning by nine wickets. There was some top class bowling by James Kirsten, son of Gary Kirsten, along with Fawaaz Hendricks, Adam Samsodien and Noah Heath who spun Blue Bells batters into a web and restricted them to a modest total.
This together with the unbroken batting partnership between Thaafier Japtha and Moosa Gabriels set up a convincing victory for the team.
In the under-13 final the JP21 team scored 54 runs, with hub top order batsmen Kieran Bowers and Abdullah Adams having a solid knock up front to contribute to a convincing nine wicket win as well.
In the curtain raiser match, the combined Primrose Hub Gary Kirsten Foundation girls’ under-13 team beat the JP21 girls by eight wickets.
“I am a truly proud of each and every one of our hub players, their consistent hard work and commitment is showing in the results they are achieving,” said Adonis.
“Well done also to the Primrose Hub players who scored centuries over the past few weeks: Adnaan Laggedien (under-11), Ebrahim Fakir (under-12), Thaakier Davids (under-14), and Mahir Joseph, Azaan Hussein and Mateo Herman (under-15).
“Many of these youngsters who played in this JP21 series have never played under lights and at such a magnificent facility as the Bishops Frank Reid Oval.
“Big thanks and appreciation to JP Duminy, the foundation and support structures that made this festival a memorable sporting event which will serve these players, many of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds, well in their cricketing careers,” said Adonis.
“The JP21 Foundation T10 Friendship Series was played over five weeks, with all the matches played with great sportsmanship and a spirit of friendship amongst the players.
“Good luck to our Primrose Hub boys defending their titles in the under-17 Basil D’Oliveira Cup starting Friday December 14, and the under-13 Feedem Cups starting Thursday December 13”, said Adonis.
