Bowling machine handover

An emotional Uzair Tregonning handing the bowling machine over to Taureen Isaacs, the vice-chairperson of Strandfontein Cricket Club.

Uzair Tregonning, 15, from Strandfontein, decided to donate a bowling machine given to him by his late father Phaldie, to sports NGO Unchain The Plain (UTP), to help in their campaign to distribute sporting equipment to needy clubs and organisations.

In return, Unchain members decided to pay it forward by donating the machine to Strandfontein Cricket Club to assist with its junior coaching programme.

Uzair, a Grade 9 pupil at Wynberg Boys’ High School and himself a talented cricketer, said the family decided to donate the machine to UTP so that more youngsters can enjoy its benefits.

Those who knew his father, a former teacher at Rocklands High School and principal at Windsor High who died in 2018, will remember him as an avid sports enthusiast, always encouraging youngsters to take part in sport.
