Observatory’s Siya Makakane and Woodstock’s Tumelo Mogashoa are ready to light up the stage in Disney’s The Magic Box at the Artscape Theatre next month.
The stage musical pays tribute to the art of animation and combines puppetry, elaborate costumes, and projections in a large-scale staging.
Makakane, 24, who will play the role of Mother, says being part of the production has been a thrilling experience.
“I am surrounded by a team of people who thrive in putting their heart and soul into every fibre of this spectacular show every time we step into the rehearsal space to create the Disney magic that we’re all so excited to share. And to be led by such a trusting and gracious creative team has been the biggest cherry on top.”
She has previously been part of the touring musical, We Will Rock You, and Peter Pan.
“I have always been moved by the way we use art to convey life in so many beautiful ways, what’s not to love about that?”
Mogashoa, 22, who will be playing the role of Goofy, says: “From the first day, it has been an experimentation on the joys and magic of Disney. I am working with the best company and the best crew and creative team any person could ask for.”
A recent graduate of the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (Lamta) in Camps Bay, he has performed in Mephisto, The Seagull and Cosi.
