The Woodstock-based Born Victorious Foundation held a women-empowerment workshop for students staying at the Elizabeth Women’s Residence in Gardens on Thursday August 22. BVF invited two women in leadership roles – social justice advocate and economic adviser Phelisa Nkomo and social worker and South African Social Security Agency manager Zoliswa Lonja – to address around 60 students about mentorship and the power of being independent. Pastor Zintle Namase, chairperson of BVF, said: “Women go through a lot of things, and oftentimes most of them have no one to run to or talk to, so we create platforms such as these as a way for them to seek solace or some form support, and to also receive new skills depending on the nature of the workshop or event.”
