A Pinelands non-profit company fights period poverty is running a Women’s Month campaign called, “This is not a sock.”
Co-founder of SAAGE, Sarah Jacobs, says the campaign was launched on Women’s Day, Tuesday August 9, and they want to spread awareness and sponsor the reusable Safepad and educational booklets for 2000 girls.
The name of the campaign highlights the plight of young women who can’t afford sanitary pads and have to resort to using socks, rags and newspapers when menstruating, she says.
SAAGE raises funds to have the Safepads manufactured by a Southfield company. The materials are imported from India (“Local manufacturer found for reusable sanitary pads,” Southern Suburbs Tatler, March 30).
