Rondebosch police are warning the public to take extra care when walking on Rondebosch Common as a 30-year-old woman was mugged there on Tuesday, at about 6.15pm.
The woman was walking with her friend in the common along Campground Road when a silver vehicle stopped alongside them and a passenger jumped out and ran towards them, say police.
“The suspect pointed a firearm at them and demanded their cellphones,” said Rondebosch police spokesman Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam.
The man took the woman’s cellphone. Her friend wasn’t carrying one.
He jumped into the back of the vehicle and it sped off.
“Runners, walkers and cyclists using the common must be vigilant and report any suspicious vehicle or persons loitering around the area,” he said.
