Jacob Fried, of Bishops, in Rondebosch, won first prize in the essays category for 14-to-18-year-olds in the Progress SA #YourFreedomYourFuture Competition, while Phoebe Kingston, of Westerford High School, Newlands, came second in the videos category for the same age group.
The winners were announced on Sunday December 10, with first place receiving a cash prize of R10 000 and second place receiving R5 000.
Jacob won for his essay, “Opportunity over obedience – constructing an open society”, while Phoebe’s video-essay was titled, “Just Smile”.
