Trio arrested for kidnapping

Rondebosch police arrested three men, including a minibus taxi driver, for kidnapping on Saturday September 16.

The men allegedly refused to let three girls out of the taxi after giving them a lift from Brooklyn to Cape Town.

The girls asked the driver to stop after they noticed the taxi was heading to Muizenberg and away from Cape Town.

Rondebosch police spokesman, Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam, said the driver refused to stop and kept driving.

“They panicked but managed to draw the attention of a police van and the vehicle was pulled over,” he said.

The men, aged between 31 and 33, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday September 19.

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for trying to rob a woman in Rondebosch earlier this year.

The woman had been walking under the Burg Road subway on Sunday April 23, at 10.40am, when a man with a knife threatened her and tried to grab her bag. The man cut her on her arm when she screamed and refused to let go of the bag.

Warrant Officer Sisam said the woman had identified her attacker in a photo album of crime suspects. The photo was circulated to patrolmen who arrested the suspect on Sunday September 17.

A 31-year-old Crawford man was arrested after he allegedly tried to steal a cellphone from a man in Crawford on Tuesday September 19, at 6.30pm.

A fight broke out between the two and the man managed to restrain the would-be mugger, as his accomplice fled.

Passers-by called the police who arrested the man.
