Three suspects were arrested following a high-speed car chase involving Metro police officers in Rondebosch last night.
Officers, who were on patrol in the area, were notified that a stolen Corsa bakkie had been detected by licence plate recognition cameras.
The vehicle had been stolen at a school in the area.
Officers spotted the vehicle at Main and Belmont roads, but the driver refused to stop and sped off.
A chase ensued. The driver later crashed the bakkie at the corner of Klipper Road and Newlands Avenue.
Metro police spokesperson, Sergeant Ruth Solomons, said the officers proceeded to check the vehicle. “They found two imitation firearms, housebreak-in tools, ATM cards, an identity document and a small quantity of tik, mandrax and dagga.” said Sergeant Solomons.
The suspects aged 27, 36 and 46 were arrested and detained at the Rondebosch police station. Â
