Harfield Village residents came together to help spread some Christmas cheer by holding a toy drive for less fortunate children.
The Harfield Village Community Improvement District and Fidelity ADT held a toy drive at Hampstead Park on Saturday December 5, in aid of the Goedgedacht Trust – a farmbased community support organisation in the Swartland region which seeks to uplift farm children and youth through early childhood development projects.
The toys, which filled a bakkie and car, were delivered to the trust on Tuesday December 8 and will be distributed by the trust to children in the community.
CID manager Jenni Coleman said after they had to cancel their annual Halloween in the park event this year due to Covid-19, she approached ADT and starting searching for organisations they could assist.
“After learning more about the work the trust does and the situation of the farm workers children, we decided to hold this toy drive – as this would probably be the only toy they would receive this Christmas.”
Fidelity ADT district manager Jade Hanning said it was the perfect opportunity for children to donate to those less fortunate and thanked everyone for supporting the initiative.
They also invited local businesses to sell their goods during the toy drive.
