Rondebosch has been plagued by a spate of thefts from cars over the past week, say police.
A man parked his Toyota Yaris in Station Road, near the Rondebosch train station, at 7.30pm on Sunday January 22, and when he returned to it the next day, he found the driver-side window smashed and some of his belongings missing.
On the same day, a car was broken into in Burg Road, Rosebank, when the driver-side window was smashed and items of clothing were stolen.
Rondebosch police spokesman Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam, said that in a third incident on the same day, a man had returned to his vehicle in Sunnyside Terrace, Rouwkoop Road, to find its left side window broken.
The thief stole camping chairs, a Garmin GPS, a Garmin nuvi GPS, a Leatherman knife, a compressor, a toolkit to the value of R1 750, kitchen equipment, a cooler bag, sunglasses, suitcases with clothes and CDs.
On Monday January 23, at about 7.30 am, a woman put her handbag in the boot of her Toyota Corolla in the Rondebosch Common parking lot before going for a run with a friend.
“They got back to the vehicle after their run and she discovered that her handbag had been removed from the boot of the vehicle. “No evidence of any forced entry to the vehicle was found,” said Warrant Officer Sisam.
That same day, a man returning to his, Chevrolet, in Wetervreden Road, Rondebosch, at 5.30pm, found its left door forced open. His iPhone and wallet containing cash and his banks cards had been stolen.
“We advise that all property be removed from any parking vehicle. We encourage drivers to ensure that vehicles are parked in a secure parking and behind locked gates at night,” Warrant Officer Sisam said.
