A Micklefield School teacher recently returned from a trip to Budapest, Hungary, to attend a conference on integrating new skills and technology into the classroom to prepare pupils for a rapidly changing world.
Grade 6 teacher Keshma Patel was one of three teachers from South Africa and Lesotho, chosen to take part in Microsoft E2 Educator Exchange, attended by some 300 teachers and education experts from around the world, in March.
“It was an honour to be selected,” said Ms Patel. “I have come back filled with ideas and am inspired to teach our girls to be successful women in the 21st century.”
The conference focused on developing 21st century skills in the classroom, with communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and computational thinking forming the basis of their learning.
“What excited me the most was that for the first time in history we are finally starting to look at ways to restructure the education system and prepare our learners to be globally aware citizens,” Ms Patel said.
Another highlight for Ms Patel was collaborating with teachers and realising how on par they were with the rest of the world.
“I am looking forward to sharing my new knowledge with both the teachers and girls at Micklefield,” she said.
