Rustenburg Girls’ High School will stage the musical, Annie, in the first week of May.
Annie, which was first brought to Broadway in 1977, is based on the book by Thomas Meehan. Rustenburg’s production stars Gabi Roodt as the title character, Annie, who dreams of finding her real parents while enduring life in an orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan, played by Eleanor Cruise. Annie’s luck changes when billionaire businessman Oliver Warbucks, played by Bishops pupil Koame Kota, takes her in for the Christmas holidays.
Pupils from Rondebosch Boys’ High and Wynberg Boys’ High also make up the cast, and the production includes the hit songs Tomorrow and It’s the Hard Knock Life.
Annie will be staged at the school’s Kemp Hall, on Thursday May 4, Friday May 5 and Saturday May 6, at 7pm, and on Sunday May 7, at 4pm. Tickets are R130 through Quicket.
