School holiday party

Back from left, Yaseen Collins, Junior van Reenen and Laiqah Davids and, front from left, Tania Slingers, Kim Davids and Rafiq Davids enjoy the The Breaking Bread Community Development NGO’s end-of school-holidays party at St Luke’s Church in Salt River last Friday. About 35 children from Cecil Road Primary, Dryden Street Primary, Wesley Practising School and Trafalgar High School, among others, took part. Sheradia Brown, the director of Breaking Bread Community Development, said the organisation helped the homeless and needy and provided after-school daycare for children from single-parent homes. The children decorated the hall for the party and some dressed up. Swedish exchange-student volunteers at the organisation donated some toys, toiletries and stationery to the children. One of them, Pernilla Gernersson, a teacher’s assistant from a Montessori school in Sweden, said she had been visiting schools here during her stay.
