Wesley Practising School and Dryden Street Primary received a Mandela Day boost when the Salt River Blackpool Football Club delivered soccer kits to the schools on Tuesday July 18.
The chairman of the Salt River Blackpool Football Club, Iqbal Kasker, who delivered the football kit to both schools, said the club was celebrating its 70th anniversary.
“We needed to give back to the Salt River schools, and many of them go on to join our club, and we hope to get football active in the community especially for primary schools,” he said.
Ms Kasker attended Wesley Practising School in the early 1980s.
“It’s a proud moment for me to be going back to Wesley and giving back after so many years,” he said.
Wesley Practising School principal Fatima Kasker-Goosen was thrilled with the new kit.
“It feels good as educators that we have past pupils that are giving back to the school, and they are helping in enriching other people’s lives.”
Dryden Street Primary principal Stanton Smith said: “It’s nice that they thought about us, and the pupils can now have a soccer kit that they can be proud to play in.”
