Four men, aged 24, 27, 32 and 37, were arrested for robbing the Queen Bess Superette in Imam Haron Road, Rondebosch East.
Sergeant Nkululeko Mnyaka of Lansdowne police says the arrest last Wednesday March 11 around noon took place when a passer-by walking past the shop alerted the patrolling police that the shop was being robbed. “Police officers stopped to check out the shop and came across the suspects leaving the shop but they ran back inside after noticing the police van,” he said.
Sergeant Mnyaka says police officers arrested three of the men while the fourth suspect managed to flee though he was later apprehended by neighbourhood watch members.
“Two firearms were recovered with both their serial numbers filed off and cash of R630 was recovered,” said Sergeant Mnyaka.
All four suspects were arrested and detained at Lansdowne police and are facing charges of business robbery and appeared in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court last Friday March 13.
