Some 200 pupils at Queen’s Park High School in Woodstock protested against alleged racism and favouritism at the school on Tuesday September 13, leading to police being called to the scene to disperse the crowd.
Seven pupils who reportedly tested positive for drugs were suspended.
They also accused the school principal, André van der Merwe, of being racist, saying black pupils were regularly disciplined when coloured pupils were not.
The school declined to comment to the Tatler.
Western Cape Education Department spokeswoman Jessica Shelver later said the suspension of all those who had reportedly tested positive for drugs had been lifted as due process had not been followed. The department would also be investigating the allegations of racism.
