Southern suburbs family the Forsdykes were celebrating last weekend as daughter Megan Forsdyke de Almeida proudly showed South African champion athlete Wayde van Niekerk where to plant the national flag during the Olympic opening ceremony in Rio de Janeiro. According to her mother Jane, Megan is married to a Brazilian and has been living in Rio for six years, “although her heart is very much here in Cape Town”. She is a fluent Portuguese speaker, and because she is bilingual, was selected to be one of the volunteers who assisted the flag bearers. “She told us that she was still on cloud nine, and the experience is one she will never forget,” Ms Forsdyke said.
